IRS Direct File and free file

The IRS is expanding it's Direct File program to include Wisconsin as one of the eligible states for the program. Direct File is just what it says...filing your federal 1040 directly through the IRS. Minnesota is not on the list yet (2024 tax returns). The IRS intends to expand the program to include additional states in coming year. 

Free File is a public private partnership. If your adjusted gross income is $79,000 or less, you may qualify to file for free through one of the IRS partner websites.
